GROUNDBREAKING IMMERSION PROGRAM

Welcome to our revolutionary cultural and language immersion program. Departing from conventional immersion programs, typically commencing in preschool and concluding by the end of elementary or middle school, our programs are uniquely tailored for students in grades 5 through 8, placing a specific focus on this critical developmental stage.

What truly sets us apart is our innovative reverse immersion methodology. Unlike traditional programs that initiate with exclusive use of the target language, transitioning to a 50/50 language ratio, our programs begin with a balanced 50/50 language distribution. As students progress, they gradually immerse themselves fully in the target language by the program's culmination, fostering a profound and nuanced understanding of the language. This allows students who begin language learning at a older age to keep up with and gradually become accustomed to using a new language.

Beyond language acquisition, we recognize the pivotal role of culture in the learning process. Our programs place a significant emphasis on the cultural component, providing students with a holistic and enriched experience. Our team of dedicated educators, many with backgrounds in the arts, bring extensive teaching experience to the classroom.

Immersive learning takes tangible form through hands-on projects like calligraphy, traditional Japanese origami (paper folding), and engaging activities such as manga book making. Additionally, we are excited to introduce the joy of music making and singing in Japanese, adding a harmonious dimension to the learning experience.

As part of our commitment to a holistic cultural exchange, students have the unique opportunity to delve into the world of strategic board games. In addition to language and arts, our programs offer the option to learn chess, go, and shogi – traditional board games from Japanese and global cultures. This inclusion fosters a deeper understanding of strategic thinking and promotes cultural exchange through shared games.

Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our research-based approach. Continuously refining our programs, we strive to achieve the best possible outcomes for our students. Join us on this exciting journey of language, culture, and creativity, where every student is empowered to flourish in a globalized world, embracing the richness of diverse traditions and honing strategic minds through the art of traditional board games.

Global Youth Chess Go Shogi MindChallenge

We are currently in the planning phase of a new project called the Global Youth Chess Go Shogi MindChallenge (CGS Mindchallenge). The project aims to facilitate a two-year cultural exchange initiative centered around the engagement, education, and empowerment of youth (from kindergarten to high school) in three strategic board games: chess, go, and shogi. The primary intent is to provide an innovative platform for young minds to learn, excel, and compete in these intellectually stimulating games, culminating in a groundbreaking international tournament. This project aspires to foster cross-cultural connections, enhance strategic thinking, and promote intergenerational bonding. Find more information at https://cgsmindchallenge.org.

Free 5-Week Chess Boot Camp Success

Dates:3/11/23-4/8/23 (Saturdays) 5:30-6:30 pm

Thank you for your support! We offered a free 5-week chess boot camp geared towards beginners. The program was a great success and we were able to spread our love of chess to many new youth players! All of the recordings are shown below. We learned that there is a great demand in the Japanese community for chess. Moving forward, we hope to continue spreading the love of chess, and expand this idea to board games of great heritage: shogi and go.

We also offer clubs!

Our Chess Club and Anime Drawing Club are hosted every week and are open to anyone interested!
